Amid Pandemic, YPP & PMI Blood Donors Collect 5,263 Blood Bags

Ramadan Blood Donation activities were held in stages starting from PMI Blood Transfusion Units in Yogyakarta (May 12-16, 2020), Malang (May 14-16, 2020), Surabaya (May 18-20, 2020) and DKI Jakarta (May 20-22, 2020). All activities went smoothly, and despite the pandemic, it did not reduce donors' interest in visiting the PMI Blood Transfusion Units offices in each city. As a result, the number of blood bags collected in all cities reached a total of 5,263 blood bags with the details of the acquisition in each city are: Jogja 647 blood bags, Malang 1123 blood bags, Surabaya 2708 blood bags and DKI Jakarta 785 blood bags.

Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation (YPP) in collaboration with Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) regularly organizes blood donation activities every Ramadan. Considering that every Ramadan, there is a shrinkage in the amount of blood supply at PMI. This year, the condition was further exacerbated by the Covid 19 Pandemic that hit Indonesia which resulted in all levels of society being asked to carry out health protocols to prevent Covid 19 transmission through physical distancing, Work From Home (WFH), Stay at home and other activity restrictions. As a result, PMI's blood bag inventory decreased by 70-90%. which directly affects patients who routinely need blood transfusions. These patients include thalassemia, hemophilia, patients undergoing dialysis, cancer and emergency cases that experience delays in getting blood due to unavailability of blood stock.

The event, titled Ramadan Blood Donation, was held in Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Malang and Jakarta. The four cities were chosen, not only because of the great need for blood bags but also because of the high interest of donors. This Ramadan Blood Donation activity is also related to Emtek Peduli Corona, which is the foundation for all social humanitarian activities of Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation (YPP). In addition, the organization of blood donation this time also applies health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid 19 by maintaining distance and reducing crowds. For this reason, activities held at a number of PMI offices are made on a scheduled basis. The following are recorded images of Ramadan Blood Donation activities in each city.
