Free Cataract Surgeries in Ende, NTT

Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation SCTV Indosiar (YPP), the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, PERDAMI’s Central Cataract Blindness Management Division (SPBK PP), and the Ende Regency Government have worked together to hold a Cataract Surgery Social Service program at Ende Hospital, April 26-28, 2023.

PERDAMI SPBK PP deployed 6 ophthalmologists, 7 assistant surgeons, and 5 other officers to aid in the activities. A total of 155 cataract patients and 4 pterygium patients were successfully operated on, totaling to 159 patients. For approximately 5 years, the Ende Regency Government has not carried out any cataract surgeries.

Director of the Ministry of Social Affairs Social Rehabilitation for the Elderly, Drs. Supomo, MM, reported that patients were very enthusiastic about taking part in the free cataract surgery initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, YPP SCTV Indosiar, PERDAMI, and the Ende Regency Government. This was due to the absence of cataract surgery activities in the past five years.

On this occasion, the Regent of Ende, Drs. Djafar H. Achmad, M.M supervised the implementation of the cataract surgery program.
