Although our attention was directed to Palu and its surroundings, we still carried out another regular activity: Cataract surgery. For this reason, we collaborated with Dr. R. Gandhi AT Naval Hospital. Biak, Papua to organize a Cataract Surgery Social Service last October 8-9, 2018.
A Biak resident, Mrs. Milka Boseren came accompanied by her husband on a motorcycle from Biak city. Milka has been waiting for an opportunity to have her eyesight operated on so that she can see normally again.
Another patient, Mr. Pagi, has been staying with his relatives in Biak for four months. He came from Nabire specifically to wait for this event.
There are many patients like Mrs. Milka and Mr. Pagi who were helped by the Cataract Surgery Activity organized with the Navy in commemoration of the Navy Health Day.
Cataract surgery was chosen because cataract surgery is needed by the Biak community because there is no eye doctor in Biak. To organize this activity we invited 2 ophthalmologists from Jayapura who operated on 15 selected patients out of 32 registered patients.
