YPP in collaboration with PERDAMI of East and North Kalimantan and Kutai Kartanegara Health Office conducted mass cataract surgery for underprivileged residents in Muara Kaman on November 23-24, 2019.
The operation, which was held at Bunga Jadi Health Center, Muara Kaman, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, successfully operated on 51 cataract patients out of more than 150 patients who registered. Those who did not pass the screening were mostly due to high blood sugar, and some were not cataract blind, but glucoma or other eye diseases.
Residents and the Head of the Health Center are very grateful for this program, as their remote location makes it difficult for residents to seek eye treatment. The nearest hospital is in tenggarong, 4 hours away on a bad road. This caused them to neglect their illnesses and some of them went blind due to glucoma and other eye diseases.
